Okay James Gandofini (Tony Soprano), There's a war going on outside, no man is safe from, you can run but you can't hide forever form these streets that we done took. You walk around with your head down scared to look, you shook. ain't no such thing as half way crooks. You never around when when a beef go down. in my part of town.
Don't get me wrong eight ball and MJG is tight, and so is scarface. But none of them was holding it down like Jay or Nas.

Yo honey-dips, summertime, fine Jheri drippin
See you on Pickens with a bunch of chickens how you're clickin
I catch shootin strong notes as we got close
She rocked rope, honey throat smellin like Impulse
Your whole shell baby's wicked like Nimrod
Caught me like a fresh-water scrod, or may I not be God
Attitude is very rude Boo, crabby like seafood
It turns me on like Vassey and Lahrule
They call me Starky Love-hun, check the strategy
By any means, Shirley Temple cross was done by Billie Jean's
Black Misses America, your name is Erica, right true
Lazy eyeball, small piece, six shoe
Caramel complexion, breath smellin like cinnamon
Excuse me hon, the Don mean no harm, turn around again
God damn, backyard's bangin like a Benz-y
If I was jiggy, you'd be spotted like Spudz McKenzie
I'm high powered put Adina Howard to sleep
Yo pardon, that bitch been on my mind all week, but uhh
Back to you Maybelline Queen let's make a team
You can have anything in this world except CREAM
So whatchu wanna do? Whatchu wanna do?
Let's go ahead and walk these dogs and represent Wu

man I think that's major debatable, every rapper has good points and bad ones, don't get me wrong the east coast does have a gang of lyricists, but the best ones they have are either waaaaaaaaaay underground, many of them are "highly over-rated"-(i.e. Jay-z)the same goes for the West Coast, we got a gang of rappers that ya'll been stealin from, and since yall control most of the music industry our shit don't get heard or get no airplay, but it's cool, cause after B.D.K. all ya'll had to me personally was the WU and few other cats, and ya'll didn't blow back up till Pac left us!!! he had yall shut down, and scared to do shows out here (except for the wu-tang clan-I remember them comin out here) so yall got your time to shine, and thats cool, but remind yourselves that yall been stealin from NWA(and all associated (snoop-dre-etc), Too Short, and E40,yall ain't heard "izzle and fo sheez, till 3xCrazy (yall don't know who that is huh?) started sayin it out here 7-8 years ago, now yall got it famous? please,
all yall got is HOLLA!!!, and thats from who Ja Rule (Ja-little Pac??-or is he Ja-z? who does he wanna be? yellin murda inc, and doin love duets? East coast rap ain't that clean, like yall give yourselves the credit to be,
and The South been knockin, since the Ghetto Boys down to TO LIVE CREW(gettin parties started for years!!!)
East coast niggas didn't start hollerin about best lyricists till yall wasn't gettin no love cause yall beats was weak!!!, Pac had yall scared to release shit!!! now yall off the hook, I ain't buyin it, I give yall credit for a few artist- Method man, Nas, mos def, talib Kwali (or however you spell it) and maybe a few others, but yall won't never have a car/party soundin like a west coast beat...EVER!!!!! unless Dre produce it for you and/or Nate Dogg sing on it , now go lyric for lyric and I got somethin for you from the west, and I bet your quotes will come from some old ass retired rappers or the same few niggas yall got out now, who want it???

Alot of things you stated are correct. But the bottom line is "How do you like me now" as Kool Moe Dee would say. The west coast is mighty quiet right now. By the way.. did you know TUPAC is actually from the East Coast!!!

they wanna talk bad about the West ha? You dont wnna give the West Coast it's props ha? Wasn't no fa sheezy, no colla poppin, no c-walkin', no NATA until the West Coast dropped it off on you. You know why the East is trying to sell some albums now? PRODUCTION Simple fact, that the East Coast is not known for having beats, the 808 kick drum and a nsare and high hat dont cut it, the West showed ya'll how it's done via Ant Banks and Dr. Dre. Parking Lot Pimpin' by Jay-Z, OH BOY, how long have we been out here wit that? I bet ya'll aint knowin', we originated PLP, the Yay Area been gettin' janked out of our lingo, lifestyle, and concepts, and the fact the East Coast drives the media machine, it's gone keep on happnin', so sell your records, but know this, ya'll stole our shit! Pop ya colla to that one

I think this is an easy topic to drop... the lost in the early 90's because of production. The west locked with P Funk and every body was on that... but everything has a cycle and things came back to lyrics... that's where the east shines. the east has it now because every body is on lyrics and flow now. the west has only one tempo and the only west coast rapper droppin' is Snoop. I don't think the variety that reps the east (common, ja rule, jay z, nas, Wu, Busta rhymes, the roots) is available in the west. As far as the west is now, if Dr. Dre don't produce it... it won't hit.
Common had the same problem. His lyrics were tight, but his production was wack. When he got with the Roots then his shit hit.
And I agree that the biggest problem is that the east controls a major portion of hip hop. That makes it hard for west coast and southern rappers to get on. With only a few major options outside of New York to choose from, we never get the full array of talent that exist outside of New York.

isofly your right. This is another topic all together. but i have to address this shit right now. Chuck you kind of sound like a hater. You west coast cats slay me. All i hear is pac. "pac was the greatest". "pac was the hardest". Didn't i state that pac went to school to be an actor. he went to the Baltimore school for the arts. Where he used to get chased to the bus stop. But he had lyrics. I can't deny him that. No matter where he was spitting them. I guess all that time as a digital underground background man paid off. and your right. the roots was never holding it down, or common, or rakim, or nas, or BIG, or mos def, or uncle L, or fuck it. you get the point. there has been a lyricist to span the time of rap coming from the east. and beats without a proven rapper to flow over them is just that, beats. Your beat god has proven that. Dr. DRE's aftermath was whack. no snoop, no hits.Did You forget about timbaland? I think he has a lot of people knocking on his door. And snoop was shitty when he ran like a scared bitch from deathrow. Only to stick out like a pimp at a PTA meeting, down in bayou. His records on P's label was whack. And as far as being original. The begining was the east. Everything else is just variations of this. I don't care where you go, slang is going to be different. So stop crying about someone stole your soal. You guys had the biggest selling rapper(entertainer) of all times. hammer. so there is your guru. oops. did i say guru. He (guru) had no lyric's. yeah right. chuck just face it. say what you want, but you know the truth. Just accept it, and go get a hug from your mom's

let me drop it here about the West fa sho one time. Unlike the East Coast who have Def Jam runnin' the rap industry, who else gone ever come up? Def Jam is a machine of the industry which drives over competition and I hope you really dont think videos are chosen by Rap City and MTV to get on, when Def Jam calls in, they can say drop anybody you got for these three artists cuz we say so and it's done, BET the same way, we wouldn't complain if shit wasn't bias as it is, but FACT, the East Coast dont run rap, they have the machine behind them. We get no promotion or love this way, the same shit ya'll was cryin' about when ya'll didn't have it, but you have to knwo that all media outlets per the hip hop industry are located on the East Coast, so while ya'll washing hands over there and pattin' backs, we still sellin' albums and the West Coast, you know, Home of the Platinum Plaque is still runnin' some shit, know that the West Coast has pushed more albums than the East, period, point, blank, wasn't nobody on the East Coast goin' Platinum PERIOD, we dont wanna buss numbers up cuz I'd hate to get buck on ya'll like that, the East needs the West to go Platinum, we can go Platinum by ourself.
Now, Southern Lyrics vs East Coast lyrics? Come on now, you got to be kiddin' me. It aint no competition. The South is not known for lyrics, that's not they steelo down there, it's bounce music, crunk shit, and club bangers, and the East Coast is all about third eye visions, mother and the earth, seeds and bullshit like GOD, SON and this and that, WU got no lyrics, Mobb Deep sorry as fuck, Fabolous is garbage, and another thing, East Coast cats have to find the likes of Timbaland, Rockwilder, Swizz Beats, and Neptunes, but I will give Ja-Rule credit for puyshing two Multi Platinum albums wit no production from the above mention folks, and know that Busta Rhymez sho did buy a few beats from out this way, but on the real, lyrics dont mean shit if it's not the life you live, I dont fuck wit East Coast shit cuz I dont wear Tims in the summer wit shorts and I dont call bitches mami's and shit, so the South get's my vote because the West and South are pretty much the same

okay playboymon,
your right, DMX didn't platinum with four albums. Jay-z didn't go platinum with 5. Take off your beer goggles son. you make me laugh. and before Jay or nas or dmx or nwa. Epmd went gold when nobody else was moving units like that. but non of this shit gas anything to do with lyrics. Def Jam did bring us RunDMC and LL. And so many others. And they all held thier own. You can't say that the Wu don't have lyrics. 36 Chambers brought it. Ghost face's Iron man should be a classic. Or do you just listen for beats. Because that is all your talking about. And don't try affiliate yourselve with the south. because tony soprano has a point. The dungeon family is tight. not one weak link. Unlike the dog pound.

You Ice ... Why you cold ? You are freezing them son. You reppin the east well and really don't need any assistance but I can't resist. Since we digging trenches into this east vs west war. I gotta rep my side . The east. OK... First the beat thing is just preference. PFUNK style vs your Break Beats. Take your pick. Listen to your radio. The Break beats are still playing still being sampled and NEWYORK carries the etire industry for break beat samples. You have alot of folks doing original music roots, timberland, Dungeon Fam, neptunes, etc. let us not forget the neptunes (oh my god!) Hot, Hot , Hot. All from the east. And their music is influenced by break beats. I love west coast beats PFUNK, which is really everybodies beats but for the sake of argument, the west coast gave it a rebirth. Right now i don't hear too much Pfunk out there which maybe the reason why the west isn't getting much air play right now. Hmmm... Now lyrics. East coast always had the lyrics crown. More specific New York always had the lyrics crown. Here is the proof. In the late 80's early 90's The west had the rap game locked. The west introduced Gangsta rap during a time where the east was vunerable. Public Enemy broke up, EPMD broke up, Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh broke up Slick Rick in jail, Rakim & Eric B broke up, RUN & D turned to the church. Heavy'd lost one of the boys..These w ere the heavyweights during that time and had they stayed intact, gangta rap would not have broke in so big as it did. To contribute to the popularity of gangsta rap the east was putting out acts which the rest of the world couldn't understand. Das FX, FU-SHICKENS. And with gangsta rap being so popular, If you didn't do gangsta rap you were overlooked. Big Daddy Kane, De la soul, the kats that made El sigundo (can't think of their name), he'll even KRS1 started loosing ground because he wasn't " Gangsta ". Then came the WU, Nas, etc. Brining a mix of gangasta and reality from the east perspective. They made noise but did not win over the industry. Once Biggie & Craig Mack hit the scene it was over... The Flood gates open. MOP, MOBB DEEP, JAY-Z, etc. I include Craig Mack because although what we got from him were the party joints , he was writting a lot of stuff that had the gangsta flavor for other kats. You also add Craig to to the list of those who were slept on. He had success but not as much as he could have if he was gangsta. I said all of this to say lyrically, the east took the west style of gangsta rap and made it even better with the same old beats. Their is really no comparison. The East Coast got this rap thing Locked!!

1st off, DMX aint drop until what year? 1998? Gay-Z just start going Platinum, what you talkin'? Too Short been going Platinum for how long? Count his plaques my man and get some knowledge. EPMD been going gold, I wont front on that, but so has E40 so what are you trying to say? Ghost Face is garbage, the Wu aint shit, and how you gone tell me dont affiliate myself wit the south when I grew up there too? You dont know my history boy so check ya tonsils, the WHOLE Dungeon family tight? You got to be on some rocks nigga. But you talkin' about lyrics, answer me this, what makes a mothafucka have lyrics? What are lyrics to you? The East Coast just start gettin' plaques, act like you know, we been gettin' em, and the Neptunes are from VA, that's the south, not East Coast. You wanna crunch this shit out, we can, but fix ya'lls mouths correct when speakin' on the West, and please, tell ja-Rule to stay out of the West, how many videos he gone do out here? Matter of fact, name 10 artists from the East Coast that went Platinum if you can.

playboymone,
ya talking in circles, again. you say that the west has been going platinum forever. i don't think so. and then you say that the east coast cant go platinum without the west coast. but in a counter point to yourself, you say that the east coast has def jam. and you call def jam a machine. and rap is controlled by this machine. get your mind right son. sit down an figure out your own shit first. then you might be able to throw some darts. okay, you want me to list at least ten. here you go son son. DMX, JAY-Z, NAS, BIG, METH, WU (36 CHAMBERS), GHOSTFACE, REAKWAON, LL, AND THE PLATINUM PRINCE P-DIDDY. that is just off the top of my head. And seriously, how can you say that ghost is garbage? what do you listen to? every other word or what.you definitly got it twisted. I want you to listen to listen to motherless child, off of his first solo joint. then holla at me. And i promise i will not gloat when you tell me that it is tight. The neptunes are from va. but va has a sound all in it's own. it is obvious yyou hven't been out there. they have a mix of house, drum-n-bass, hiphop, and go go. are you old enough to remember EU? if so, that is gogo. but anyway, when i last looked on the map. virginia sat right on the east coast, just south of maryland and north of north carolina. so its a toss up. because, if you stay in school. you will eventually figure out that virginia begins the mason dixon line. but i will not get into that. i'm not here for that.
and i don't give a shit where your from. you were repin the west. and if you would have stayed in the south. you would know that the south has two different sounds there. there more lyrically potent dungeon family, and then you got the maaster p stuff. so yes the dungeon family is tight, but p isn't. ya dig?
but this discussion was about lyric's. but you wanted to mention platinum. then the west has it. MC HAMMER. he sold more times over platinum than anyone else. so there you have it. hahahaha and if you want to really get into it. too short's early album's didn't go platinum. they weere just popular on the westcoast. like i said, EPMD was the only rappers going gold at that tme period. and that was too short's time as well. get your mind right.
but isofly is right. NWA did bring the gangst rap thing to the forfront. when the east was getting deep in the contiousness of the black people. recognizing the plight of black people all over the country. you bring up all of these things to cover the issue. the east has always been lyrically tighter than anywhere else. just admit to it. i'm not saying you have to bow down to it. just realize and move on. it's okay. i will not hold it against you. But now you are going to tell me how hard you are right? I hold no grudges my son. i am here to communicate with my black people. because there really isn't a lot out here in the big HI.

yall niggas killin me w/the least coast is greater than thou bullshit yall spittin, yall got it on lock, cause yall the ones who print the shit!!!, yall the ones that give the mic's in the magazine, and yall the ones, stealin everything West Coast Rap does,
next thing yall gone say is yall been havin cats that wanted to work w/Nate Dogg?? hell no, not till yall realized that his (1 or 2 vocal ovtives make shit knock even harder)
but now as far as east coast bein on a more educated tip yeah, yall have that let me get your head straight thing crackin and it's a good thing, but all that shit started on the west coast too w/the Black Panthers (West/East Oakland to be exact)
Point blank, regardless of lyrics and or Beats, niggaz is in the business to make money, and while yall need to the media to make it, we don't, you can't name a rapper from the east coast that started out of the trunk of his car instead of on his knees to some record executive's dick!!!, do yall even have any independant labels/ or is everyone takin turns Blowin Russell Simmons?
As far as this "great Fencer" .....
dog what the fuck you spend time doin? fencin? (nutt check please?)better yet sanity check? any reason you want to get stabbed?
I'm not a hater at all, I give credit where credit is do, and yall do have some niggaz thats nice on the mic, but to hear our best you gotta turn the radio, and east coast tv...(bet, mtv etc...) off, and go to the damn record store, pick up 3xCrazy, Mr. Ill, Too Short, RBL, WC and the Madd Circle,
E-40, Richie Rich, and whoever else you see that you ain't never heard of, cause Vibe and Source won't mention them, and watch them blow you'r swiss beats gettin sued by casio mind!!!
Do you honestly think yall wanted to step foot out of New York, when the west had it 3-4 years ago? no and Def Jam was still there then wasn't it? yall didn't feel "safe" over here, see what you don't know about me and PLayboy Mone, is that we've traveled this whole United states thanks to the jobs we've had, and nobody is as real as the West Coast, yall caught up in a "image" that somebody can really run rap, don't nobody decide who run rap but the fans, and since the majority of them get "one sided info" they gotta say the East Coast got it locked down, but yall don't, everybody over there is signed to somebody, everybody over here, and some of the down south cats did it themselves, niggas like Too Short and Scarface been rappin for decades nigga, no overnight shit like Ridiculous or fabulous or whatever his name is, see how long he last, if he still knockin in 5 years, I'll come back to this very email and apologize, so until yall start makin yall own money..... shut the fuck up w/that we clean, no nigga Russell Simmons and Puffy are clean, matter of fact didn't a White boy help Russ start his little company??
while yall on that Black spiritual shit?

I know this fool aint say Ghost Face went Platty, MAAN where did you get that info at? The only place who can certify yo shit Platty is the RIAA. You sound like a dick ridin' ass East Coast junkie. Ghost Face went GOLD, nothing over, get ya head right! Raekwon went GOLD. You can't even name 10 artists from the East who droppin' plaques. How you gone tell me about different music? I'm already knowin' about Go-Go, you ever heard of Backdoor? I know you aint tried me like I aint knowin', nigga how you gone ask me about Down South music? Them niggas just gettin' plaques down there, and Dungeon family aint fixin' to cut it either! How you gone tell me Short old shit aint get certified?
Too Short - 9 Platinum and Gold albums alone.
from "Born to Mack" to "You Nasty" so how you gone tell me his old shit aint went GOLD or Platinum?
And it's a known fact, if you aint selling records on the West Coast yo ass aint going Platinum. Why are East Coast cats using West Coast theme's, beats, and slang? To get a West Coast market. Example: H to the Izzo, Parking Lot Pimpin' just to name two off the top of my head. What the fuck are niggas C-Walkin' on the East Coast for? Why was niggas in NY bouncin' tryin' to do Down South joints? You dont see niggas on the West Coast shootin' C-Lo do you? HELL NO! That's right, DefJam is a machine who runs the industry right now, but UNIVERSAL is fuckin' DefJam up fa sho, and they killin' em. it's nice to know you know geography, but the South has more then just P and Dungeon, I just got back to the West my man, what you know about that bounce music ha? You killin' me my man, you need to give me more credit before you end up mqaking yourself look more stupid than you have. one thing there son. watch your mouth when talking to grown folks. you said that all of too shorts albums went platinum. so there for you need to get your head right. if you want some replacments, here you go. mase for all of his selling out ass went platinum. and q-tip, and the violators album. but as i said before "the discussion was about lyrics". i think i mentioned that the whole rap thing started in the east. so, everything is just a variation of the east. niggas out there don't play c-lo. so what. what the fuck does it have to do with rap lyrics? did you read the name of the post? i know yu got a little excited, feeling as though your little world was left out of the respect thing. it's okay. there is enough room for everyone. but what does that have to do with lyrics. i told you, if you want to say that the more records you sell, makes you a better rapper. then MC Hammer is the greatest of all times.
but wait a minute. i havn't forgot about you chuck. you sound like a hater. foreal. you talk about how hard it is for a rapper out there to get on. if you think about it. why don't someone out there get his or her shit together and make a large company. niggas is sefish thats why. it's all mememdmemememememe. fuck that. everyone put in. and everyone eats. it's as plain as that. stop hating son. and russel simmons is just a hustler. he was not on the black contious thing ever. that was a bdp de la soul thing. And who better to help you succeed in the white man's world, but a white man. You can't hate on the beastie boys. they went platinum. not just in the us. but in three other countries. because for all of this chit chat we are having about rap music. it's still a world the rap audience will not control. When rappers start selling like the backstreet boys or nsync. we are still very small.
To give you a little insight on the gr8 fencer musashi. he ws the greatest sword fighter in asia. undefeated. he believed to be the best in his job, or study. even after retirement he continued to work and practice. He even came out of retirement to defeat a man with nothing but an oar. So i will continue to be the best "Air traffic controller" i can be. you have been all over the country. i have been all over the world. on every continent. not for just a 2 week visit. but to be in the mix of it's society.
and playboy. i gave example's of the south. I have all of the ghetto boys albums. i know there is more to the south than that. i thought you could see that. i guess not. i will fully explain myself the next time, okay? calm down.
and i could'nt really feel e40. i tried. i really did. he was just a little too off for me. as far too short. i love that little motherfucka. he is, and always will be a pimp. COLD. i think your boy snoop need to listen that nigga. I didn't lisen to him before. i had to go back and research his shit. that was about 4 years ago.
you just sound like a hater., thats all. talking about dick ridin. noones dick ridin' just repin for my east son. you can't deny that Jay is on the top of the game right now. face it. No one on the west is really bringing it.
Oh, as for fabulus. he is a one hit wondeer. He will be unheard of this time next year. I think being away from the U.S. will give you a broader look on things. it helped me. I did have the blinds on. But i got a copy of Eightball and MJG's first underground joint. i played that shit everyday for two months. And i don't read the source. why are you so quick to refer back to the topic name? Did you not get clownt when I put it on you that them fools wasn't droppin' Platinum albums as you claimed? You wanna knock lyrics now? You keep naming songs I will never hear cuz I dont fuck wit them niggas albums, but listen to Mac Mall "Servin' Game", bump E-40's "Mr. Flamboyant" and I gaurantee you ya head will knod cuzzin, and be grown as if you may baby boy, I'm 25 and I aint no jit so know that you fuckin' wit a pro here. My niggas from Souls of Mischeif can rock a mic til the day turn to night, ya'll was all singin' "93 til Infinity" But like I asked you before, what makes a nigga have lyrics? Anybody can make two words rhyme on beat. MAAN I'ma hater? HA HA thats what you wish I was. Jay-Z on top, I can't deny it, but why Eminem killed him on "Renegade"? Jay-Z aint cuttin' it no more, he did his thang but it's time to move on. What about Del the Funkee Homosapien? have you heard his 1st album " I wish My Brother George Was Here" classic shit, or here's a song you should know, "Catch A bad One" straight lyrics, matter of fact, I'll hit you off wit some and you tell me:
Verse One:
People have a memory loss, they don't remember I'm the boss
You're claustraphobic, when I close it
In on your men and your faculty, you wack'll be
Out my face, you must be basin' if you think
That you could tackle the triumphant, I pump it
The volume, increase as you mices get sliced to pieces
Please listen to my album, even if you're white like talcum
And I paid t'getcha stay here
Tuned with my tune and I presume if you see doom designated
To anyone who stated, a word against me
I serve an mc, simply
Put like my foots up your anus, ya shame us
Tryin' to get over, I'ma go for mine
You know the time now they are older
I'm gonna rip nigga's heads with the said salutations
Introducing Del and his bid for boosting tails
Of my adventures, attempt to try
And you will limp or die, whichever I choose, you lose
Crews get ashamed cause we blame them for bitin'
You might win if you start writing, and stop fighting
No time for games, I'll rearrange my vocals
In your headphones, I hold til I get a answer
Acknowledge and abolish all the wack records
Hieroglyphics, you know, repect 'em
Chorus: [repeat 2X]
Who caught the harm, you bought the farm
If you're friend, there's no need for alarm
Verse Two:
I get juice when I let loose a little of my cleverness
Up under my follicles with no mousse
Choose your weapon, you kept steppin'
You're swept in a hurricane, Del will blow your brain
So your next generations of youth will be facin' the truth
And the truth is I'll leave you with the loose tooth
Gums get split if you bit, I'll extract the truth
Out your ass like I'm standin' in the pulpit
Or a lie dectector wrecked ya sector when you're standing
I can swing, branding, expanding, on what I'm handing
To the people, cause we will
And you can't say a damn thing about it, if you doubt it
You're already outta line, so let me remind your behind
About the switch which I used to bruise your bottom
That little nigga tried to cut, I caught him
He didn't think that I would see that
So be that, and be off the D cuz we rap
We sap the strength and wrap the length
Around the whole course of time
And still got the time to unwind
Chorus
Weak MC's make me hurl, earl is your world is crushed
Because I gotta make you hush
You gotta be eliminated, the way I demonstrated
You hate it, but still I am the greatest
Like a boxer, I'ma knock your socks off
Nowhere to run to, exits are blocked off
Steadily I'm dissin' men, I hope you're listenin'
Brothas like my flow, others ride my jock like a bicycle
But I'm psycho, fools try to play me like Tyco, gotsta pull the rifle
Daisy, graze the ass with the BB
It comes speedy, sign the peace treaty
Or you'll be needin', medical attention
When I leave you bleedin'
Throw a monkey wrench in your program
Crammed up your ass, and it's just too bad, son
Catch a bad one
now you tell em about lyrics, that's striaght out of East Oakland!

okay i slipped a little, i can admit to that. that is what a man does. but, i named some other platinum artists. they should have filled in enough for ya. i have del's first album. my cd collection is heavy with the east coast thing, but it is not the only thing in there.
as far as having lyrics. i think it has to do with what youu do with the english language. it is a difficult one to learn, but a powerful one to use. having lyrics, is that kind that make you think a little harder. not just nod your head. how playful you can be with the words. some can some can't. mellow man ace did it with two languages. and ultimatlly, who can freestyle. some rappers will admit to not being to do that. eminem did get off on renegade. i think jay just gave him a larger platform to shine on. so people could really check him out. not on that purple hills shit. but some lyrics thrown down. Jay is a lot like roy jones. he hass gotten bored in the game. so there is nothing for him to get up for. when he brought it too mase. he was cold. when he went at nas,he got em. when someone out of the south or west really come at him, he will improve again. when he rymed beside biggie. he was on point.when pac was really trying to bring it to big, he was on fuckin fire. he could melt stone. he could even melt my cold ass.
but getting back to lyrics. too short lyrics were very simple, buti liked it. i think it is all in your delivery. if you listen to Public enemys ( a nation of milllions...) chuck d. cold. his delivery was just tight. but to look at the lyrics on paper. it doesn't look that powerful. to have lyrics is to really deliver. i think that the pfunk thing really didn't focus on that. it was more of the beat behind the song. E40 will never really be taken as a lyricict because he makes up so much shit. when you make up words, people tend to think that you are not being a rapper, but nursery rymer. even people in the west will say that he is a little off. fa shizzle. hahaha
oh, and by the way. i'm 27. i grew up in hip hop. i went to run dmc concerts.
PlayboyMone
02-04-2002, 06:03 PM
you went to Run DMC concerts, OK, I went to the concert wit them, LL and Heavy D cuzzo, I'm seasoned too, and folks can try to diss 40 as a lyricist but where has the majority of hip hop slang been derived from? Definately not Jay-Z. I dont think Jay gave Em a platform to bust cuz almost 10 million albums sold solidifies an artist, so Jay did him no favors. Why Jay never got back at Pac then? Why is Jay now givin' that nigga his props and shoutin' this nigga out?
"I find it fun to smash emcees into (fine bits)
So why I ain't get my just deserts for all the kids I busted, huh?

You follow and slippin'

So why flow if you're not invigerating (why)

Look at this way. Jay is in the spot light. So if the country is listening to Jay's album, then he did do him a favor. He didn't get back Pac for a good reason. What does he stand to gain. nothing. there was no real beef anyway. Pac was an actor man. Everyone new he was trying to sell album's. that's why BIG didn't go at that nut. I lost a lot of respect for Pac behind that shit. He was so violotile he started saying shit about snoop. How's that for deathrow loyalty? Please don't bring up pac. he pisses me off so fuckin bad. And everyone i know from the west coast loves him. Speaking of which. why the fuck do we say the west coast. There's only two states. And one of em is know for grundge rack. for now on, i'm saying California. And that is one big ass state.
PlayboyMone
02-05-2002, 11:29 AM
no other state out here get's recognized as the West Coast but us, but Pac was more than what you read and shit like that, people always quick to call Pac fake, and a shit disturber and a fraud, but what ya'll dont know is, we was out here when he was walkin' the streets just as Tupac, when he didn't have no tickets and he only had 1 album, he was in to shit and he was associated wit some serious niggas out here, that's what the world dont know. I hate when niggas try to diss Pac for who he was when they only know what the media told them or what they read in a book or article, we witnessed this nigga on the street, when he was a nobody, so I'll be damned if mothafuckas will call him a shit disturber just to push albums, this nigga been down from Marin City, Ca to Oakland and he always been puttin' it down, it;s so many niggas albumsd out this way that got Pac songs on 'em but ya'll will never know or hear them. You crazy, Jay-Z may be doin' his thang, but he still aint do Eminem no favors by adding him to the track, if anything, it made Jay look better, Eminem dont need no help selling albums, he's already out sold both of Jay-Z's album with the Marshall Mathers LP so he needed no help, and then get ate up by Em on his own shit, come on now, you can't convince yo'self that Jay hooked him up, but will Jay be on Em next album, who knows, but then would it be Em giving Jay-Z a platform?

I'm glad that you are confident of your abbilities to return to the top. but as far stealing goes. i would'nt say the word "steal". I think a lot of the commercial shit is simular. And that is the fault of the "top 40 conglomerate". They will push anything that is halfway decent. how can you explain will smith going platinum? And he is not on Def Jam. I know you are about to start the whole Machine theory. I don't want you boys to get worked up again. If the west really want to rise. Put Too short in a position that snoop is in. Can you imagine a whole too short album produced by Dr. Dre? But i'm not going to concied to the west being better. NEVER
PlayboyMone
02-05-2002, 01:10 PM
As far as Def jam being a machine, it has plug on outlets via the media. Say I have three new artists and they HOT, and Def jam calls MTV and BET saying we got DMX and METH videos we want to pump, take this extra loot, and bump whoever and play our shit. Def Jam wins again. What ahs happened is BET and MTV aren't intersted in breaking new artists, they only care for established artists or soemone they can latch their hip hop hungry suburban audience. Too Short, no matter what the single and producer maybe will never be on TRL, you may catch him on BET Uncut but who the fuck gone stay up until 3am just for a Too Short video? MTV, bettre yet VIACOM made one of the biggest mistakes by removing The Box for MTV2 which isn't available in the hood in most ares such as the box was so real hip hop heads have taken a loss and have to pretty much settle for the Top 40 conglomerates who say what and when we hear shit. That's why alot of artists are going the way of independant labels. More points per album, more of a deal when you only ask for distribution. But now the market is flooded wit mom and pop labels who can't hold their own due to major labels and their hold on artists releasing them for collabortaions. I can eb the man and have the hottest single on earth and want to do a remix wit Busta Rhymez, but J-Records will tell me they wont let Buss get on my shit, or try to buy my single, give me some points and credit Busta for the song, believe me it happens, check out Jay-Z "Can I Get A..." That was originally Ja-Rule's song, but Def jam said we'll just give it to Jay-Z and you can be on it, shit is shady for real. There's more than the Def Jam machine, there's Universal BMG, Sony, and Prioroty. What has happened is labels are jumpin' on crew's instead of artists. if your a solo artist, right now the industry aint trying to see you, you need a crew to get on.
Ice-out
02-05-2002, 02:04 PM
You stated that you need a crew of people to get on. and it has to be through a mjor label. why not go to that label? Get a crew, make a demo, and bug the shit out of russel simmons. That is how he got on.
I thought i was the only person missing the box. i never paid for a video, but i did watch the ones that were on. you can't even get bet over here. Unless you're in the military. They have it on thier base's. There is a station calle much music, they play everything. Other than that i have to talk to my people in brooklyn.

PlayboyMone
02-05-2002, 03:03 PM
it aint that simple to just run up to a label and say check out this demo, there is so much red tape you need to go through to get to who you need to reach, 9 time sout of 10 yo shit is in the trash BEFORE the 1st person see it. It aint that easy to get a crew together too because of marketing schemes, if the company can't figure a way to market you, you aint going no where, these labels make me sick, packaging standard criteria for a crew, you need 1 female who's fine, thick, and can rap, and at least 5-6 other cats who can bust too. Then the label may tell you, they only want two of ya'll, and they'll put you wit a new crew to roll wit, or even worse make you follow in the same steos of marketing as Jive has packaged N'Sync, Backstreet, 98 degrees or O-Town, get what I'm spittin', the industry has turned corporate, it aint just about the music anymore, it merchandising and endorsements

SHAKE SHAKE BANG!!! ha ha ha, but now whenever music gets back to bein "happy" rap will be fine, and no one will even care who's better than who, cause it will all get a party started, like in 94 or so, even though they were funkin if Pac came on at a party we got to groovin, and if a song later was Puffy and mase or Bigg, we got to groovin, cause the music was good for the mood (did that make sense to you guys?)

Then you show him the new trick of how you can lick it, smoke a cancer stick
You be workin it like a dancer bitch, it's hard on me
Not to give you all of my time, that you wanted
You can give me some head, but keep the breakfast in bed
I'd rather spend my mornin diggin through some records instead
But, tonight, I guess it'd be aight if we can touch bases

But i'll be damn if give up my fuckin' NSX. cause the japanese didn't start it all. I'm not saying these are the best lyricist out of NY. I have puposely left out (chuck d, KRS1, MOSDEF, GRAND PUBA, DMX cause that just would not be fair) I want to see 5 (stick to your own region now) This will also lead into the other forum dicussion is rap getting old? I'm still dissapointed about that one. But we can keep that in the other room. This is about lyrics. Not new , not old, not Platinum, lyrics. I though I would just bless yall with some oldskool classical battle rap lyrics as best as i can remember
Date: 1981
Location: Manhattan Armory
scene: Busy Bee Starski #1 Bronx Rapper vs the underated, up and coming rapper Kool Moe Dee.
You young kats pay close attention.
Battle rap between " Kool Moe Dee vs Busy Bee Starski"
Hold on Busy Bee I don't mean to be bold,
But put that ba-did-di-ba bullshit on hold,
Can't count the amount of nuts you done hugged,
Ya even bit cha name from the luv bug (luv bug Starski was an MC who came out before Busy Bee Starski)
To bite an nigga's name,
is a low down shame,
If you was money man you would be counterfit,
and knows that you can rock
Everbody also know your on the furious Jock, (furious = the Furious 5 )
I remember this from the olden times,
when my man easy lee use to sell you rhymes, (Once upon a time is was a discrace to buy or copy another MC's lyrics... just think about how it goes down today...)
Remember that rhyme called diddly - bo - diddly,
Man god damn that sh#@ was pitty
Too hot to burn , and too cold to freeze,
Ya never herd MC rhymes like these (too hot to burn.. too cold to freeze .. can yall appreciate this)
Celeberty clubs and bullshit like those ,
those the kinda clubs everybody knows,
These are the only battle contests you can win,
Because it's all set up before we come in, (BUSY HAD A REPUTATION OF BRINGING HIS HOOD WITH HIM TO BATTLES SO WHEN THE JUDGES ASKED OF THE CONTEST AKSED WHO WON , THE CHEERS WOULD BE FOR BUSY.. THIS NIGHT YOU COULD HAVE HEARD A RAT FART...)
But In a battle like this you know you'll loose,
between me and you who do you think they'll choose,
well if you think it's you well I got bad news ,
cause when they here your name , your gonna here some boos
cause your fakin the funk, cause your fakin the funk
and at the end of my jam you can call me Unc - le Moe dee,
rock shock da house , call me Uncle and rock da house....
"Battle rap between Kool Moe Dee vs Busy Bee Starski"
these lyrics are over twenty years old. feel me!!!... to put this in a better perspective, this is around the same time the sugarhill gang made "the chicken taste like wood ..." song. This is called " prime before his time "

Song: You Don't Want It
Yo, y'all niggas don't know the art of war
Now you dyin' and my gun'll keep burstin' 'til your mama cryin'
I'm defying your whole crew, y'all niggas weak
It could be on officially if you had heart
Nigga your overrated, props old decaying
Not known for sprayin', what the fuck you sayin'
Your crew fell, you jeal', cuz mine doin' it
Yo quit the jealousy, let's get the felonies
My niggas sellin' keys, your niggas sellin' dreams
Your plans ain't precise, you need better schemes
Cuz yo, I ain't tryin to lose another nigga
And if so enough blood is spilt to fill a river
And I'll part the Red Sea like Moses dad
And smite my enemies despite the penalties
You could live like kings, but die from injuries
You about to be a memory nigga (You don't want it!)
I don't hate you, I despise you
I call you cocksucker, cuz it describes you
I know you wish you had a real crew, like I do
Niggas'll send shots and get props like my crew
Look at you nigga, you had status, most of that vanished
Y'all niggas has been, addicts, unestablished
What the fuck happened? You had the block clickin'
Now you in denial, y'all are finished
You out position, but you no competition
To my niggas with heaters yo, we not feelin' you either, what
You wanna talk violent, but Sig P.'s for solution
I stalk silent, when I precede execution
Taught by the, realest niggas to walk the planet
With one thought you vanish, like the corp remanded
You on the ave with your weak mans frontin'
When you see my niggas comin' (You don't want it!)
My nigga Biggie must have prophesized
When he said somebody got to die
I'm like the jackal, when I attack you die from gat wounds
Frank Nitty couldn't do it that smooth
Life's a bitch, I'm the pimp, you own Mad Duke's crew
I proved you weak, you ride dick to eat
You ain't real, ill, or prepared to kill
Man you better chill, you could get it for real
I live this life of gangstas, ever second it's changin'
The enemy is rarely a stranger
The treachery in the heart cemented jealousy's best friend
That's the reason felonies will never end
How you feel is mutual, I don't fear retaliation, I'm shootin' you
This is a mere evaluation, I do what you to scared to do
Motherfucker I'm prepared, you don't, want it nigga

Artist: Notorious B.I.G.
Album: Life After Death
Song: Niggas Bleed
Verse One:
Today's agenda, got the suitcase up in the Sentra
Go to room 112, tell em Blanco sent ya
Feel the strangest, if no money exchanges
I got these kids in ranges, believe them niggaz brainless
All they tote is stainless, you just remain as
calm as possible, make the deal go through
If not, here's 12 shots, we know how you do
Please make yo killings clean, slugs up in between
They eyes, like True Lies, Kill em and flee the scene
Just bring back the coke or the cream
Or else, yo life is on the shelf, we mean this Frank
Them cats we fuckin wit put bombs in yo moms gas tank
Let's get this money baby, they shady, we get shady
Dress up like ladies and burn em with thirty-three-eighties
Then they come to kill our babies, that's all out
I got gats that blow the wall out, clear the mall out
Fuck the fallout, word to Stretch, I bet they pussy
The seven digits push me, fuckin real, here's the deal
I got a hundred bricks, fourteen-five a piece
Enough to cop a six buy the house on the beach
Supply the peeps with Jeeps, brick apiece, capiche?
Everybody gettin cream no one considered them leech
Think about it now, thats damn near one point five
I kill em all I'll be set for life Frank pay attention
These motherfuckers is henchmen, renegades
If you die they still get paid, extra probably
Fuck a robbery, I'm the boss
Promise you won't rob em, I promise
But of course you know I had my fingers crossed
Chorus:
Niggaz bleed just like us
Picture me bein scared
of a nigga that breathe the same air as me
Niggaz bleed just like us
Picture me bein shook
We can both pull burners, make the motherfuckin beef cook
Niggaz bleed just like us
Picture a nigga high
Then my life in that man hands, while he just decidin
Niggaz bleed just like us
I'd rather go toe to toe with all of y'all
Runnin ain't in my protocol
Verse Two:
Since it's on, I call my nigga Arizona Ron
From Tuscon, pushed the black Yukon
Usually had the slow grooves on, mostly rock the Isley
Stupid as a young'un, chose not the moves wisely
Sharper with game, him and his crooks, called The Jooks
Heard it was sweet, bout three-fifty a piece
Ron bought a truck, two bricks laid in the cut
His peeps got bucked, got locked the fuck up
That's when Ron vanished, came back, speakin Spanish
Lavish habits, two rings, twenty carats
Here's a criminal, nigga made America's Most
Killed his baby mother brother, slit his throat
The nigga got bagged with the toast
Weeded, took it to trial, beat it
Now he feel he undefeated, he mean it
Nothing to lose, tattooed around his gun wounds
Heavy in the game, embedded in his brain
And me I feel the same for this money and diamonds
Specially if my daughter cryin, I ain't lyin
Y'all know the signs
Chorus
Verse Three:
We agreed to go on shootin is silly
Because niggaz could be hidin in showers with Mac Milly's
So I freaked em, the telly manager was Puerto Rican
Gloria, from Historia, I went to war with her
peeps in ninety-one, stole a gun from her workers
And they took drugs, they tried to jerk us
We blaze they place, long story, Glo seen my face
Got shook, thought a nigga was comin for the safe
Now she breakin, shut up, 112, what's shakin
A Jamaican, some bitches I swear, they look gay
In a black Range Rover, been outside all day
If it's trouble let me know, I'll be on my way
Please, I got kids to feed, I done seen you make niggaz bleed
Nightmare, this bitch don't need it
Ron, get the gasoline, this spot, we bout to blow this
Lets get the cash before the cops and Range Rover cats notice
Room 112, right by the staircase, perfect place
When they evacuate, they meet they fate
Ron pass the gasoline, the nigga pass me kerosene
Fuck it, its flame-able, my hunger is unexplainable
Strike the match, just what I expected
The dread kid ejected in seconds
And here come two, opposite sexes, one black, one Malaysian
We in the hallway waitin patient
As soon as she hit the door we start blastin
I saw her brains hit the floor, Ron laughin, I swear to God
I hit Maxi Priest at least twelve times in the chest
Spin-t around, shot the chink in the breast
She cryin, headshots put her to rest
Pop open the briefcases, nothin but Franco faces
The spot's hot, sprinklers, alarm systems
Thats when other guests start to slip in
It's time for us to get to dippin
I know them niggaz in the Range is on they way up
Flippin, pistol grippin, I know they clippin
The hallway, got real loud and crowded
They walked right past us, I don't know how they allowed it
The funny thing about it, through all the excitement
They Range got towed, they double parked by a hydrant
Stupid motherfuckers

Album: ATLiens
Song: Babylon
I came into this world high as a bird
From second hand cocain powder
i know it sounds absurd
I never tooted but its in my veins
While the rest of the country bungies off bridges
Without no snap back
and bitches they say they need that
To shake they fannies in the ass clubs
they go the other route
turn each other out
burn each other out
where a bonified nigga like me
can't even get no back rub these days
ain't that bleak on they part
but let me hold it down
cause they shut you down
when you speak from your heart
now that's hard
while we rantin and ravin bout gats
nigga they made them gats
they got some shit that'll blow out our backs
from where they stay at
